Officially called Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens. This is a collections-based educational and research institution, which in addition to the library, houses an extensive art collection with a focus on 18th- and 19th-century European and 17th- to mid-20th-century American art. The property also includes approximately 120 acres of specialized botanical landscaped gardens, most notably the "Japanese Garden", the "Desert Garden", and the "Chinese Garden".
One of the most enjoyable attractions in the Los Angeles region. It's also not a destination that you should attempt to explore in full during a single day: between the art, the library holdings and the spread-eagle outdoor spaces, there's plenty to see, and most of it is best enjoyed at lingering leisure rather than as part of a mad day-long dash.
